About Us

The forty-plus members of the Sunflower Retriever Club are avid and enthusiastic retriever owners.  Members enjoy the camaraderie of training, waterfowl and upland hunting, and competing in field trials and hunt tests together.

Our members range in age from ten to eighty-five years old and reside in an area from Hays, KS to the north to Okarche, OK to the south.  Breeds owned by members include Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.

Members' dogs are trained by their owners or by professional trainers.  Many members enjoy getting together in groups to train after work and on weekends.

We have monthly Club Meetings and hold two, AKC-licensed performance events annually, a Hunt Test the second weekend in April and a Field Trial the second weekend in October. We enjoy sponsoring these events and have fun doing it!

Our hunt test is held on Private and Public land near Cheney Reservoir and the field trial in the Cedar Hills on private land near Hazelton KS, approximately 80 miles southwest of Wichita. We have over 1,000 acres with rolling hills, red canyons and beautiful lakes and ponds available to us. We also hold many of training sessions on this property.
